Lulu Guequierre is a folk artist and tattooer from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, currently living and working in Montreal, Quebec. In their practice, Guequierre focuses on mark-making as documentation through painting, journaling and tattooing. They investigate interpersonal relationships as sites for queer utopias to emerge. Community is at the center of Guequierre’s drive, emphasizing the importance of non-institutional forms of education through intimate mentorships and skill sharing. Their research of the interpersonal, power, gender and narrative is informed by their academic background in English Literature and Gender Studies at Concordia University. They have exhibited their work in Montreal, Milwaukee and Berlin. Guequierre currently works as a tattoo artist in a private studio in Montreal.
